5 Highly Addictive Podcasts to Listen to Right Now

5 podcasts to listen to right now

For blogmas this year, I decided to switch it up and highlight local bloggers in the area that you should already be following! My next guest post comes from Carmen, from http://totallytullywood.com and she is sharing with us her top 5 podcasts to listen to right now. Be sure to check out all of her information at the end of this post!

Hi! I’m Carmen and podcasts are kind of my jam. If I’m in the car, doing dishes, or just relaxing 9 out of 10 times I’m listening to something. I started listening to My Favorite Murder and fell down the rabbit hole.

I’m a big true crime fan, but recently I started listening to more biographical podcasts and not so much crime/murder. But let’s be honest, I always have at least two of those in my library at all times! Check out my list of the most recent ones I am binging and really digging right now!

1. Scattered

scattered podcast

Scattered is about comedian, Chris Garcia, trying to decide should he and his family should grant his dad’s dying wish and scatter his ashes in Cuba. Chris isn’t just trying to decide if this is what’s best but also why he would want to be there after he wanted so bad to get out. He is a first generation immigrant. His family left after Fildel became ruler and times were tough. It talks about how and why he left and what his dad did to be able to leave. This podcast deals with learning about a father’s past and his unfortunate battle with Alzhimers. Grab those tissues, I promise tears will be rolling.

2. Dolly Parton’s America

dolly partons america podcast

What would America be like according to Dolly Parton? Jad Abumrad is trying to find out. In Dolly Parton’s America he interviews the queen herself, Dolly Parton, along with professors and musicians. This podcast delves into the life, lyrics and opinions of Dolly Parton, and how/why she is the queen that everyone loves.

It’s not just the boobs or outfits, it’s the lyrics and her truth. I never really understood the hype of Dolly. I knew a few songs, Jolene and 9 to 5, but I didn’t know about her history and where she came from. After following a long with this one I get the hype. She connects people with a feeling of home when she talks about her “Tennessee Mountain Home”, even if that home isn’t in the mountains, but actually somewhere far away.

I highly recommend this one. What’s not to love about the Queen of Country?  Dolly Parton’s America may be my new favorite Podcast. (The soundtrack is aso fire. You can find it on Apple Music and it is updated after each episode)

3. Finding Fred

finding fred podcast

Whoever has anything negative to say about Mr. Rogers, I will fight you right now… Finding Fred is an amazing podcast about Mr. Fred Rogers (obviously). Finding Fred goes delves into the man who helped teach children about life’s moments big and small, scary and exciting.

Mr. Roger’s neighborhood was on PBS for over 3 decades and in this podcast you learn why it was so successful and what it meant to so many different people. Carvell Wallace does an amazing job narrating and interviewing people that worked for and with Fred Rogers, along with adults who were touched while his show as children. It makes you fall more and more in love with the man. Honestly I’ll be forcing my daughter, Isla, to watch his show and Daniel Tiger even more often.

4. The Lighthouse

the lighthouse podcast

The Light House is a podcast about a missing teenage backpacker from Brussels, Theo Hayze. Theo was last seen leaving a bar in Byron Bay, Australia. Using hidden google account locations and a short amount of camera footage Theo’s family and people from Byron are teaming together to piece together his last moments and where he could have gone. Although they don’t have much information the community is banding together in hopes to find out what happened to him. Did he fall from a cliff, or was there more to the story?

This is the second podcast I’ve listened to that was produced by The Australian. It does not disappoint.

5. Hit Man

hit man podcast

Hit Man isn’t just about a hired killing, but also about a step by step how to book called, Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors. After Tiffani Horn’s mom, younger brother and his nurse are killed, this book gets tied into the investigation, you find out how and why her own father orchestrated the event.

Jasmyn Morris interviews the victims’ families, lawyers, and people from the publishing company to get answers about who wrote the book and how it was published so long. Learn about this crazy book & the families affected. It’s a good one.
